One of my favorite things when I travel to Japan is, watching tv, of all things. you see, their tv is much different than tv in the US.
I have gotten into heated debates with people (who do not have ANY CLUE whatsoever) that the whole "REALITY tv" was plagiarized from Japanese tv.
Now, if you think it is hard to watch Simon tell people (honestly) that they couldnt suck enough is harsh, then Japanese tv is NOT for you.
JP tv is brutal, funny, harsh and 100% part of their culture.... they LOVE to play pranks on eachother... they love to push the envelope of endurance, humility and pain. all of this is represented in their programs they have. It is embedded in their culture.
I thank God that my father-in-law hasnt thought of anything to do to me after 10 years... i have heard incredible stories of his antics over the years and he puts any prankster to shame... he is the master!! for (a quick) example, while playing one of those games that push the quarters out in a fancy-shmancey hotel, he coaxed his nephew to 'tilt' or lift one edge of the machine to make it dump all its quarters... as soon as "kaori" did so, an alarm went off, Father-In-Law disappeared, my wife and Brother-In-Law started grabbing the coins (yen of course) and a security guard appear questioning Kaori...
Later, my Father-In-Law asked Kaori, "Why did you listen to me? You shouldve known that you could get in trouble!!"
what a ballbuster!!
I must post his speech at our wedding!!! it brought the HOUSE DOWN!!! in the meantime, get a quick peak at Japanese humor at the link below..
Tanoshi! (Enjoy)

Shinkansen, Mt. Fuji, Shizuoka, Japan
I recorded this on our Sony DSC-T1. What an amazing sight!
I waited to catch the first one pass by while we waiting for our Tokyo connection.
I got as close as possible and was able to catch it scream by!!
awesome!
Off in the distance, I thought I heard another one so I turned around to just catch another Shinkansen flying in the opposite direction!!!
The funny part of this video is the little 'Obachan' walking in front of the second one.
The kickass part is Fuji-san looming in its majesty... keeping watch...
I just regret I didnt shoot this with the Sony mini-DV.
